Emily Blunt Apologizes for Calling Waitress 'Enormous' 11 Years Ago

This isn’t very Mary Poppins-like. British actress Emily Blunt felt the need to issue an apology after an old video surfaced in which she seemed to criticize a waitress’ weight.

The “Mary Poppins” star appeared on “The Jonathan Ross Show” in 2012, and, egged on by the host, discussed the eating habits of Americans. And Blunt revealed that, while in Chili’s restaurant, she was served by a waitress she called “enormous.”

Fans online raged at the actress, accusing her of fat-shaming. So Blunt issued an apology, saying “I’m appalled that I would say something insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.” And she didn’t stop there, seeming to take responsibility instead of making excuses. “And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m sorry for any hurt this caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.”
