Belligerent "Sovereign Citizens" Detained For Driving With No ID

Florida police nabbed two people over the weekend who claimed to be “sovereign citizens” during a traffic stop.

Volusia Sheriff’s deputies pulled over Detry Wogerman after spotting allegedly fake paper plates on his truck.

The truck was in fact unregistered and Wogerman didn’t appear to have a valid ID.

But here’s where things get odd…Wogerman and his partner Laralynne Naboznyin, who showed up during the stop, both declared they were “sovereign citizens” and therefore didn’t need ID and had immunity against being stopped by officers.

So, what exactly is a sovereign citizen? They are people “who believe they are not under the jurisdiction of the federal government and consider themselves exempt from U.S. law.”

That didn’t prove to be true, however, as both of them were arrested after a short scuffle with police.

Wogerman was charged with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without a license, and resisting an officer without violence.

Nabozny was charged with resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
