An Illinois-covered bridge that was reconstructed in 2020 has been hit 50 times so far which is why heads are scratching over how it was decorated for Christmas.
Besides being decked out in lights, Long Grove officials decided to put a wreath with a red bow on it. The problem is the bow is covering the height sign.
The sign alerts drivers of an 8’6″ clearance, which apparently doesn’t matter since it’s been struck so many times, but covering that sign spikes the risk of yet another vehicle smacking into it.
The Long Grove bridge was originally erected in 1906, was covered in 1972, and a new skeleton and cover were put in place in 2020.
