Everyone loves the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. Every year, it’s a centerpiece of the holidays in New York City, but what happens to the giant tree after it comes down in the middle of January?

It’ll be lit until January 13th, then taken to the sawmill.

The tree is donated every year to Habitat for Humanity, turned into lumber, and used to help build homes for a family in need somewhere in America, with previous trees helping build homes in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, and Mississippi.
