Earlier this week, during an epic hours-long traffic jam on I-10 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, good Samaritan Jessica Jernigan went car to car distributing clementines and cookies to stranded motorists. An image of her act of kindness was shared on social media where it quickly went viral. She was just passing through Lake Charles from Tennessee and decided to share her snacks with others during the delay.
Jernigan tries to always be well-prepared for emergencies, as evidenced by the supplies she was carrying in her SUV, including an electric blanket, a down quilt, battery packs, water, and food. Her experience as a volunteer in cave rescue training and her passion for outdoor activities have made her a pro at handling such situations. During the traffic jam, she felt compelled to share her ample resources with others who were less prepared.
Jernigan, who doesn't use social media, learned about the impact of her actions from someone she loaned a blanket to. She was touched by all the nice things people had to say about her act of kindness, but she wasn't surprised because she says all the people that she spoke to that day “were just really incredibly warm and really sweet.”
