Teachers Work Together To Save Bus Driver’s Life

The American Heart Association recently honored six teachers from Baltimore County for their part in saving the life of a school bus driver. The educators from Fort Garrison Elementary School in Pikesville, Maryland, used the CPR skills they learned on the job to resuscitate a bus driver who went into cardiac arrest outside of their school.

One of the teachers, Beth Grapes, says they’d all been through years of annual training in CPR, which played a crucial role in their ability to respond to the emergency. The training enabled them to react instinctively and effectively in the critical situation.

Around 350-thousand Americans suffer cardiac arrests outside of hospitals each year, but only about 40% of these cases receive CPR intervention from bystanders. The American Heart Association says this highlights the need for widespread CPR training and awareness.
