Epic “Frisbee” Toss Saves Man From San Diego Flooding

After heavy rains led to widespread flooding in San Diego, firefighters and lifeguards made numerous rescues, including a significant one from the San Diego River. This particular rescue was made possible by one firefighter's skillful use of a save-a-life disc. In a post to social media, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department commended Captain Aaron Boyd for his “solid throw,” which played a crucial role in saving the man from the fast-flowing waters.

The save-a-life disc, also known as a ResQ Disc, is a lifesaving tool designed like a Frisbee. It’s used in emergencies to rescue individuals from dangerous situations such as swift or deep waters and ice-covered lakes, without requiring the rescuer to enter the water. This innovative tool was instrumental in the San Diego River rescue, demonstrating its effectiveness in emergency scenarios.

In addition to this incident, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department conducted over 50 rescues from the San Diego and Tijuana rivers and assisted in evacuations from flooded neighborhoods. Mónica Muñoz, a spokesperson for the department, reported the evacuation of hundreds of residents from the Southcrest area. Despite the severity of the flooding, which led some residents to seek refuge on their rooftops, there were fortunately no fatalities reported.
