Young Brothers Escape From Stolen Car, Flag Down Stranger For Help

Young brothers in Portland, Oregon, experienced a scary situation this week when a 33-year-old woman hijacked their father’s car while they were still in it. The boys, ages nine and 11 were alone in the vehicle while their father briefly went inside a store during the January 22nd incident. The father caught the suspect in the act and tried to stop her, but was unable and suffered a minor injury when she quickly drove away.

Fortunately, when the suspect momentarily stopped the vehicle at a stop light, the boys bravely escaped. They then flagged down a passerby who called 911. Portland police responded promptly and soon the children were reunited with their relieved and grateful family. Meanwhile, a local deputy spotted the suspect driving the stolen car on a nearby stretch of interstate.

Law enforcement pursued the suspect and she refused to stop, leading them on Interstate 5 and across the state line into Washington. The suspect was eventually captured and taken to Clark County Jail, where she’s being held on charges including attempt to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and being a fugitive from justice. The Portland Police Bureau indicated that after the extradition process, the suspect might face additional charges.
