K9 Locates Missing Girl In Park Bathroom

An 11-year-old girl in Wimauma, Florida, who’d gone missing was found safe and unharmed thanks to the help of K9 Mary Lu, a police dog from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO). K9 Mary Lu and her handler, Deputy Sarah Ernstes, were called in to assist in the search for the missing child around 8 pm last Friday.

The deputy and her K9 traced the child to a neighbor's house, where they discovered that she had been given a ride to a nearby apartment complex. From there, K9 Mary Lu tracked the girl to a locked bathroom at a nearby park. The deputies were able to coax her into unlocking the door and then they reunited her with her grateful family.

In a post to social media, Sheriff Chad Chronister commended the HCSO K9 Unit for its role in keeping the community safe. He also praised their exceptional skills, which led to the successful location and safe return of the missing girl. Chronister added, “I couldn't be prouder of our team's commitment to service and determination to protect and serve."
