Charlotte County Deputy Sergeant Dave Musgrove was recently on patrol in Englewood, Florida, when a motorcycle sped past him. Moments later, he saw a flash in the distance as the biker crashed into an SUV carrying a mother and her two young children. The motorcyclist died in the collision, but Musgrove sprang into action when he heard crying coming from the car.
In a dramatic rescue captured on video, Musgrove removed a three-year-old child from the car and then discovered a baby named Lola trapped underneath the body of the motorcyclist. With the help of bystanders, he was able to get the unconscious baby out of the vehicle and immediately started performing chest compressions on her until she began to breathe again. Emergency medical services arrived and continued lifesaving treatment, detecting a pulse moments later.
Musgrove's swift and compassionate actions saved the baby’s life, earning him praise and recognition as a hero from Sheriff Bill Prummell and the community. Lola’s family says they’ll never be able to repay him for what he has done for them. “He will forever be our hero,” says Lola’s mom Lisa Foley, adding “What he did for us was life changing.”
