Students Save Driver, 2 Kids From SUV Crash In Creek

A group of University of Georgia sorority sisters is being hailed as heroes after rescuing a family from a submerged SUV in Burke County, Georgia, last Friday. The students, identified as Jane McArdle, Mary McCollum, Eleanor Cart, Clarke Jones, and Kaitlyn Iannace, were on their way to Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day weekend when they saw the vehicle leave the road and roll into a creek northeast of Sardis, Georgia. Without hesitation, the five young women jumped into action, pulling a mom and two young children from the vehicle.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude on social media for the students' courageous actions, noting that their intervention very likely saved lives. Additionally, the Burke County Emergency Management Agency praised the students, along with Chief Jerry Johnson, Lieutenant Tony Flakes, Private Cameron Sutton, and Lieutenant Jeff Broadbent, for their swift response and assistance in rescuing the occupants of the submerged vehicle.

The Sardis Police Department commended the UGA students for their selflessness and bravery, emphasizing that their actions were instrumental in ensuring the safety of the occupants. Despite the harrowing situation, the three family members were conscious and alert when transported from the scene to receive medical care.
