#GoodNews: Woman Celebrates First Mother's Day After 5-Year Coma

This Mother’s Day was an extra special one for Peggy Means. It was the first time she was able to celebrate the holiday with her daughter, Jennifer Flewellen since she woke up from a five-year coma.

Jennifer was 35 when she was critically injured in a car crash in 2017 and her doctors told Peggy that there was virtually no chance her daughter was going to come out of her coma. Despite the dire diagnosis, the determined mom wouldn’t let them pull the plug, saying, “I just couldn’t let her go.” And that paid off when out of the blue one day in August 2022, Jennifer laughed.

She was still in a coma but was off life-support and Peggy said something funny and her daughter responded with a giggle. About a year later, Jennifer came home from the hospital and while she still struggles to speak, and can’t walk, her mind is sharp and she was able to spend Mother’s Day with her mom. She also gave her the best gift ever when she managed to say, “I love my mom.”
