A 17-year-old girl who was being sex trafficked from Mexico to the U.S. was recently rescued by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office in California after she texted 911 for help. She reached out around 3:30 a.m. last Thursday, asking for help in Spanish. Though she didn't know her exact location, she provided landmarks that deputies were able to use to find her.
During the investigation, the victim disclosed that she had been trafficked from Mexico to Ventura County two months earlier and was able to identify the suspect. Detective Chris Dyer says that the victim's journey involved multiple people and locations.
The suspect was quickly apprehended and is facing various charges, including human trafficking and rape, and is being held on a $500,000 bond. The victim has received support and was transferred to Ventura County Child Family Services to help her reunite with her family.
