Teen Survives 400-Ft Fall Down Canyon, Rescued With Just Scrapes

On Saturday, a teenager was rescued after falling about 400 feet down the side of a canyon at the High Steel Bridge, located 98 miles southeast of Seattle. The Mason County Sheriff's Office reported that their Special Operations Rescue Team, along with local firefighters, successfully saved the 19-year-old, who only sustained minimal injuries.

The High Steel Bridge, which spans the south fork of the Skokomish River, has a deck that’s 375 feet above the water. The area is off-limits to hikers, but has a long history of people trespassing, putting themselves at risk. In a post to social media, the Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude for the swift and professional response of the rescue team, acknowledging the efforts of the West Mason Fire Department, Mason County Fire District #6 crew, and the Sheriff's Office personnel.
