Dead NJ Congressman Wins Reelection

It has been more than a month since New Jersey's Tenth District Congressman, Donald Payne Junior, suffered a fatal heart attack.

But last night, he won his party's primary for reelection.

Payne died after the deadline had passed to remove his name from the ballot and in the deep-blue 10th district, he still won.

Payne was in his sixth term when he died. Essex County Democratic leaders had reached a tentative agreement to support Newark City Council President LaMonica McIver, a two-term Central Ward councilwoman who's seen as a rising star in Newark politics.
