East Hollywood Skateboarders Help Stop Carjacking

East Hollywood residents Cesar Clara and Adam Hakeem were recently on their way to a local skatepark when they noticed a struggle happening in the vehicle in front of them and decided to intervene. The driver of a white Tesla was screaming for help while a man was forcing his way into the car, clinging onto the steering wheel in an attempt to steal the vehicle.

While Clara took video of the scene from behind the wheel of his car, his passenger, Hakeem jumped out and rushed to help the defenseless Tesla driver. The alleged carjacker had a firm grip on the steering wheel, preventing Hakeem from being able to pull the suspect away, so he resorted to kicking the would-be carjacker in the leg hoping to distract him.

Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived moments later and took control of the situation. The suspect, whom bystanders say was likely homeless and possibly suffering from mental illness, was arrested for grand theft auto. Reflecting on the incident, Hakeem humbly says that helping the distressed driver just felt like the right thing to do in the moment.
