Earlier this week, a man in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Tarzana stepped up to stop an attempted burglary at the multi-million dollar home of one of his neighbors. The Los Angeles Police Department reports the incident happened at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday night. Multiple masked men approached the property while the homeowners were inside, but they were frightened away before they could do any harm.
Julian Harper-Smith, who lives across the street, noticed the suspects through his extensive surveillance system made up of about 40 cameras. Reacting quickly, he flashed bright lights at the intruders before firing a paintball gun at them. His prompt intervention led to the suspects scrambling to get back to their car, which he also fired paintballs at as they drove away.
Harper-Smith says that with the frequent occurrence of such crimes in the area, he advises residents to keep their windows and doors locked to deter burglars, because, he says, today’s burglars will usually avoid breaking windows unless they spot something valuable inside. Fortunately, thanks to his watchful eye, the would-be thieves didn’t get away with anything this time, except maybe some welts and paint splatter on their clothes and vehicle.
