Army Ranger Saves Man From Car Engulfed In Flames

On Friday, Army Ranger Joe Thach risked his safety to rescue a stranger trapped in a burning car on Interstate 5 near Tacoma, Washington. He noticed the incident while driving and saw that no one else was stopping to help. Out of a strong sense of duty, he thought, “If not me, then who?” and decided to intervene.

Thach says he thought of the man as someone’s loved one and was compelled to act. He credits his training during his 18 years of military service for enabling him to handle dangerous situations and know the best course of action to safely rescue the man from the burning vehicle.

After getting the driver to safety, Thach had a heartfelt moment with him, learning that he was also in the military. The man reached out and said, "I really need a brother right now," to which Thach responded by reassuring him, telling him everything was going to be okay. Washington State Patrol confirmed that the driver was the only person in the car and that he’s expected to make a full recovery.
