Mariska Hargitay Helps Detroit Prosecutor Process 11,000 Rape Kits

“Law & Order: SVU’s” Mariska Hargitay had a hand in pushing to solve 11,000 crimes in Detroit.

The info is spilled in tomorrow’s podcast episode of “Dateline True Crime Weekly.”

Prosecutor Kym Worthy discovered more than 11,000 untested rape kits sitting on the shelf in a police evidence room and was on a mission to get those cases resolved.

Podcast host Andrea Canning says “They found 22 serial rapists among these kits … and they needed money for this effort so who stepped in? None other than ‘Law & Order’s’ Mariska Hargitay.”

Hargitay helped raise the money to get things done. It’s personal for the actress. She revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a “friend” in her 30s.
