Wallace Amos Jr., The Founder Of Famous Amos Cookies, Dead At 88

Music agent Wallace Amos Jr. opened the first Famous Amos cookie shop in 1975 in Hollywood, and the brand caught on across the country, leading to a chain that became the favorite of millions. 

Amos passed away “peacefully at home” after a battle with dementia according to a statement from his family. Amos has been recognized as a role model for black Americans, receiving the Horatio Alger Award in 1987.

The statement from his family asked for contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, and ended with “We also know he would love it if you had a chocolate chip cookie today.”

Amos was 88.
