Last week, Grant Fitterer was working at his job as a cook at Rail 19 Bar & Grill in Lonsdale, Minnesota, when he noticed a strange smell and discovered that his coworker’s car was on fire in the parking lot behind the restaurant. Inside the car, his 25-year-old coworker, Jackson Pollock, was passed out and lying over the center console with the car full of smoke. Fitterer immediately recognized how serious the situation was and acted quickly to save his coworker.
Earlier that day, Pollock hadn’t been feeling well and went out to his car to take a break. While sitting in the running car, he lost consciousness with his foot fully pressing the car’s accelerator, causing the vehicle to catch fire. When he found him, Fitterer opened up the car and cleared out the smoke, and shut the car’s engine off. Then he, along with other coworkers, pulled Pollock from the vehicle just before the fire intensified.
Flames reportedly reached 10 to 15 feet above the car and smoke was billowing into the air as the vehicle melted into the pavement. Despite the intensity of the situation, Fitterer stayed calm and acted heroically, and now he’s being credited with saving his coworker’s life.
