Drone Helps Find Missing Toddler In 10-Foot Tall Corn Field

Last week, a three-year-old boy wandered into the 100-acre cornfield behind his family’s house in Alto, Wisconsin, and within moments he was lost among the 10-foot tall corn stalks. His parents quickly realized he was missing and called local authorities for help. Despite an extensive search of nearby homes and barns, the boy wasn’t located by nightfall, leading deputies to believe he might be lost in the towering cornfield.

As darkness set in, deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office began combing the cornfield on foot. Fortunately, they had the assistance of a search and rescue drone from the Pont du Lac Police Department's Technology Response Group, which was equipped with a thermal imaging camera. This technology played a crucial role in locating the child, as the drone detected a thermal signature in the cornfield around 9:30 p.m.

Responders quickly reached the boy, who was unharmed and relieved to see help arrive. Lieutenant Alex Volm from the Sheriff’s Office says that the child had innocently chased a cat into the cornfield, unaware of the danger. Thanks to the diligent efforts of law enforcement and the smart use of advanced tools, the situation was resolved safely.
