Man Hauls Cooler Of Wife’s Breastmilk Over Raging Flood To Save It

Hurricane Helene, the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since Katrina in 2005, left a path of destruction in its wake and North Carolina was especially hard hit. As people in the area are recovering, many are still without power and roads have been washed away by flooding, forcing folks to get creative. And one dad is going viral for his clever solution to a unique problem.

When Graham Avery and his wife Logan were trying to evacuate from their home, which had no power, to her parent’s house with a generator, the bridge out from their home was inaccessible because of extremely high water. The family had to shimmy across fallen trees to escape, but they also wanted to save the freezer full of Logan’s breastmilk so it didn’t get wasted. A TikTok posted by their friend, Emily Singleton, shows what she describes as “Appalachian folks make shifting ways to save breastmilk for their babies during the flood.”

The clip shows Graham using rope to tie to the coolers full of frozen milk and tossing the rope to his brother-in-law, Josh Johnson on the other side. Josh then pulls the coolers across the now-raging Roaring Creek, getting them safely to the other side. The video has more than a million views and the comments section is full of people cheering the dad for being inventive to get the job done.
