Aaron Clardy of Madison County, Alabama, had been waiting on the kidney transplant list for several years. Determined to find a donor sooner, he made up business cards to share his needs more widely. One of these cards reached retired Marine Jeff Sosnowski, who offered to donate a kidney despite having never met Clardy before.
Sosnowski was not a direct match for Clardy but learned his donation could still benefit him by moving him up on the transplant list. Then, before Sosnowski’s donation could help Clardy, another matching donor stepped in, providing him with the kidney he desperately needed.
Even though Clardy had received a kidney from another donor, Sosnowski chose to go through with his donation to help someone else. Clardy expressed deep gratitude for both donors, saying his new kidney will allow him to be there for his four-year-old and calling the gift “life-changing.” He notes that living donors who give to strangers are very rare and he shares that the donation will allow him a renewed freedom to enjoy life and time with his family.
