Wife & Missing Husband With Dementia Reunite After She Spots Him On News

Afton, Wyoming, 91-year-old Michael Black was reunited with his wife after being missing for over two days. The Korean War veteran, who has dementia, wandered from home, prompting an extensive search by the Afton Police Department and Officer Jason Romberg. They could track his movements as he hitchhiked across multiple states but the trail went cold in Garden City, Utah.

Ultimately, Michael was found by a kind missionary at a Salt Lake City bus stop and taken to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake. The next day, during a news segment about the mission’s work, Avril Black, Michael’s 77-year-old wife, recognized him in the background of the footage. Relieved, she immediately contacted authorities and finally slept soundly, knowing her husband was safe.

The next morning, after confirming the man at the shelter was her husband, Avril traveled to Salt Lake City to bring him home. She expressed her gratitude for the efforts of the police, the missionary, the Rescue Mission, and KSL News, saying, “Boy, does he have some guardian angel looking after him.”
