If you don’t hide those sniffles, the mayor’s gonna get you. Mayor Antonio Torchia of Celcastro, Calabria in Italy has issued a proclamation making it illegal to get sick.

The proclamation tells residents to not contract serious illnesses or engage in activities that could lead to serious injuries. As you might expect, the order isn’t serious, but is an attempt to get people’s attention.

The village has one on-call doctor who’s not available during nights, weekends, or holidays, and about half of the villages residents are over 65 years old.

Torchia explained the proclamation is a tongue-in-cheek way to draw attention to the shortcomings of the health care system in the area. To avoid injuries and illnesses, the proclamation suggests residents spend most of their time resting.
