A 10-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero for protecting his little sister during a plane crash in Philadelphia last Friday. Andre Howard, his father, and two siblings were in their car getting doughnuts when an air ambulance crashed nearby, sending debris flying. As the crash unfolded, Andre instinctively told his sister to get down and shielded her just before a piece of metal from the plane struck him in the head.
A good Samaritan quickly came to his aid, using a shirt to apply pressure to his wound before a police officer rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite not specializing in pediatric trauma, doctors operated immediately, saving his life. Andre’s parents expressed gratitude for his survival, with his mother, Lashawn Hamiel, calling him a “superhero” and his father saying Andre acted just as he had trained his children to do—protect one another.
The big brother remains in the hospital as doctors work to stabilize him, but his family is hopeful for his recovery. His father praised his bravery, saying, “He’s my hero.” The deadly crash left the community in shock, but amid the tragedy, Andre’s selfless actions shine as both a rare bit of good news and a powerful example of courage and brotherly love.
