Bystander Chases, Tackles Suspect To Help Deputies In Foot Chase

Last week, Johan Eslava-Osorio helped Denver law enforcement capture a suspect wanted for aggravated motor vehicle theft. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect had been driving a vehicle without tires, causing sparks and fire from the rims, before crashing at an intersection. Eslava-Osorio and his wife were walking to a nearby grocery store when they saw the suspect flee the scene.

Without hesitation, he ran after the suspect, chasing him around the block. He says his first instinct was to help and that if didn’t, the suspect might get away. As the chase continued, a passing driver used their vehicle to block the suspect into a parking lot, where Eslava-Osorio tackled him, holding him until authorities arrived.

Despite describing the experience as frightening, the good Samaritan says he would do it again to protect his community. He believes it’s important for people to help one another to make the world a safer place. The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude for Eslava-Osorio’s quick actions in helping with the arrest.
