Dad Brings Father-Daughter Dance To Hospital So 10-Year-Old Doesn’t Miss It

After missing a father-daughter dance at school, 10-year-old Ava Cooper, who’s been waiting for a heart transplant for over 200 days, got a surprise. With help from caregivers at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital, Ava’s dad, Sean Cooper, brought the dance to her. Hospital staff decorated her room with balloons, lights, and streamers, and her mom helped her get dressed in a pink gown, while her dad waited outside with a corsage, ready to give her a moment she would never forget.

With medical staff on standby to make sure Ava stayed safe, the tween was carefully escorted to the improvised dance floor. Surrounded by cheering caregivers, she and her dad danced to her favorite songs, sharing a moment Sean describes as one of the most impactful of his life. Ava loved the dance, calling her dad her best friend and saying she treasured the dance they shared.

Ava has been battling congenital heart defects since birth and has undergone multiple surgeries while waiting for a donor's heart. Despite the challenges, she continues to fight with unwavering strength and positivity. Her family's love and support, along with moments like this dance, keep her spirits up as she waits for the lifesaving transplant.
