Ed Sheeran Says "Play" Is A Response To "Darkest Period Of My Life"

Ed Sheeran is hyping up his next album, “Play.”

He's already dropped two songs from the project, “Azizam” and “Old Phone.”

While announcing the official release date for “Play” (September 12), the singer revealed the album is deeply personal.

“‘Play’ was an album that was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life,” he shares in a post to social media.

“Coming out of all of that I just wanted to create joy and technicolor, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring."

Sheeran has been pretty open in the past about struggling with mental health following the death of two close friends, which some fans think he could be referring to.
