The fakes were displayed at the Kish Inox Tech Expo, dressed in silly outfits covered in binary code.
High-definition videos quickly revealed the truth, showing clear human features like acne scars, blinking, and breathing.
One of the robots, a woman calling herself "Miss Data," told visitors she lived in "blockchain space."
When officials were asked about the embarrassing display, a senior Iranian science official said a private company was responsible and that the government had nothing to do with it.
This isn't the first time fake robots have appeared at tech events, but these were especially poor compared to more convincing fakes used at similar shows in China.
