PE Teacher Celebrated For Starting Free Shoe Closet For Students In Need

An Oklahoma City teacher is being recognized for her work supporting students both academically and personally

TaKesha Watson, a physical education teacher at Millwood Elementary School in Oklahoma City, created a free shoe closet in the school gym to provide footwear to students in need, an effort supported by donations from the community.

The former Millwood basketball star and Oklahoma City University Hall of Famer also incorporates math and reading into her P.E. classes to help reinforce classroom learning while students get in some exercise.

During a surprise school assembly earlier this month, Watson was honored as the December OG&E Power Educator of the Month during a surprise school assembly and received a $500 DonorsChoose gift card.
