The controversy started after the Instagram account @TheCatWalkItaliaposted a collage of Selena wearing red, and Dolce & Gabbana designer Stefano Gabbana - who has a history of objectionable remarks - chimed in, commenting "É proprio brutta!!!,” which translates as, “She’s so ugly!!!”
Selena’s fans were quick to clap back at Gabanna, with one writing, “Shame on you for online bullying. Doesn’t matter if 1 million people see it or 1 person, it’s bullying. It’s wrong,” while another added, “We love this beautiful queen.”
Actor Tommy Dorfman, who stars in the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why,” which Selena is an executive producer on, also threw in his two cents. “@stefanobabbana you’re tired and over. your homophobic, misogynistic, body-shaming existence will not thrive in 2018,” he wrote, adding, “it is no longer tolerable or chic. please take many seats.” So far Selena hasn’t commented on the controversy.
