When Tyler Solomon went to get his high school diploma from Marshfield High School in Massachusetts, his principal handed it over and gave him some amazing news, too. His dad had flown in from his deployment overseas with the Army and surprised the entire family by being at graduation.
“Please join us in recognizing U.S. Army Sergeant Damon Solomon, who was granted special leave this weekend from his fifth deployment in Kosovo to celebrate Tyler’s graduation,” the announcer told the crowd, who cheered for Tyler and his dad’s reunion.
Solomon had the trip all planned, but didn’t tell any of his six children he was coming, so they were all shocked. But this dad assured his son he couldn’t miss it, even if he was 5,000 miles away. “I said to him, ‘Do you honestly think that I was going to miss this? There was no way I was going to miss this.”
