Tigers Fire Pitching Coach Chris Bosio For Insensitive Comments

Normally when a pitching coach gets fired it’s because his team is allowing far too many runs but that wasn’t the case yesterday when the Detroit Tigers let pitching coach Chris Bosio go.

No, the problem wasn’t that his pitchers weren’t bringing enough heat as much as the heat that Bosio was bringing on the team.

Tigers GM Al Avila said that Bosio was dismissed for using racially insensitive language directed at a team employee.

The team, which announced the move Wednesday, says it holds employees "to the highest standards of personal conduct on and off the field," adding it has zero tolerance for Bosio's behavior.

Avila said bullpen coach Rick Anderson will take over for Bosio. A.J. Sager, the Tigers' roving pitching instructor, will fill in as bullpen coach until Triple-A pitching coach Jeff Pico arrives and assumes that spot on manager Ron Gardenhire's staff.

The Tigers said in their statement they will not have further comment on the matter.

If only Bosio hadn’t commented at all.
