Say what you want about Johnny Manziel, but don’t say he hasn’t improved since joining the CFL.
Because while it took him 14 weeks to win—okay, inherit the starting job from a terrible QB in Cleveland in 2014, four years later and it took him only half that time to win a starting job—okay, inherit it from another terrible group of QB’s in Canada.
That’s because his new team, the Montreal Alouettes, named him the starting QB for Friday night’s game.
Manziel was signed by the Hamilton Tiger Cats to start the season and challenge for the starting job, until Hamilton turned to have the best QB in all of the CFL in former Oregon Duck Jeremiah Masoli.
Which was about the same time the Alouettes realized they had three of the worst QB’s in all of Canada and figured, if they were going to have a terrible QB, why not have one that can fill some seats.
So, they went out and acquired Manziel late last month.
And while he never got a chance to beat out Masoli, perhaps it’s fitting that on Friday he will have a chance to beat him period—as it is indeed his former “Ti-Cat” team.
Should be interesting to see how he does as—while Manziel played in two preseason games for the Tiger-Cats—this will be his most substantial football outing since the Browns released him following the 2015 season.
And you can bet on Johnny to at least make it interesting.
Although I would still bet on Masoli and the Tiger Cats who are favored by a TD even though they are playing on the road.
