The San Francisco 49ers may not have expected their savior slash QB Jimmy Garoppolo to defeat the Chiefs and the incredible machine that is Patrick Mahomes.
But the loss they may have suffered will pale in comparison to yesterday’s 38-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
And that would be the potential loss of Garoppolo for the season as the team fears he suffered an ACL injury during the fourth quarter of the loss.
Garoppolo will undergo an MRI today to confirm the severity of the injury but it sure didn’t look good as he ran to the sideline and then—in what was a huge mistake—rather than running out of bounds, tried to cut up field and gain extra yards. Instead he was hit by a defender in the torso awkwardly driving his knee into the ground late in the fourth-quarter
He was carted off the field and into the locker room looking visibly distraught.
And speaking of that locker room, the mood in it was understandably downtrodden after the game.
"It's a downer," 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin said.
Yeah, a major downer as in the season is basically down the drain as is a ton of money after San Francisco signed him to a five-year, $137.5-million contract last offseason.
