Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith is saying there is no truth to the rumors of Ohio State offering assistant coach Ryan Day a deal to replace Urban Meyer one day.
Smith issued a statement on his Twitter yesterday praising Coach Day for his work with the team while also lending support behind the continued tenure of Urban Meyer.
A report began circulating over the weekend saying the school was prepared to make Day the official coach-in-waiting.
Day was named interim head coach during Meyer's three game suspension and led the team to an undefeated record with a road win against then number 15 ranked TCU.
We obviously are appreciative of Coach Day’s great work, and hope he continues to be one of our offensive coordinators for a long time, but we are more than confident Coach Meyer will be our head coach for quite some time.— gene smith (@OSU_AD) September 23, 2018
