How bad was Blake Bortles in this past Sunday’s 20-7 loss to the Texans where he was benched after being completely ineffective and losing a pair of fumbles?
Put it to you this way, he had to leave the country.
Well, actually his entire team did, as the Jaguars will be playing the Eagles in the final of three NFL London games this coming Sunday.
And we now know that Bortles will indeed be starting this weekend for his team—although we cannot confirm he will be finishing.
That’s because yesterday Jags head coach Doug Marrone said backup Cody Kessler will also get reps this week with Jacksonville’s starting offense and that Bortles will be on “a short leash.”
“I spoke to both quarterbacks this afternoon and told them that Blake will be our team’s starting quarterback,” Marrone said. “I believe this gives us the best opportunity to win.”
Actually, the reason Marrone gave the nod to Bortles may not be because he forgot how bad he has been the past three weeks but how good he has been the past three London games—going a perfect 3-0 over the past three seasons with 8 TD’s to just 1 INT.
Still, something tells me unless they move the rest of their games there, Bortles doesn’t finish this season as the starter.
