I think I can finally say I told you so after—seemingly out of nowhere—New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold popped up yesterday at practice wearing a walking boot.
Yeah, turns out he sprained his ankle in Sunday’s 13-6 loss in what was yet another abysmal performance—throwing four interceptions.
And if you can’t bench someone for their own good and admit he wasn’t ready to start yet, why not say he is injured and that he will need to sit behind Josh McCown for the next few weeks.
Which is exactly what the Jets did yesterday when they not only ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Bills—citing a significant sprain on his right foot—but added they were not sure if it would be healed in time for their Week 11 game against the Patriots.
Darnold allegedly suffered the injury during what was the last straw in an increasingly declining season as the rookie—who showed some flashes of brilliance early on this season—has seen his play and that of the entire Jets diminish while throwing a league-high 14 interceptions through nine weeks.
It’s almost like defenses have been studying him and he isn’t mature enough a player to adapt yet.
Wow, if only he had a journeyman NFL QB of 15 seasons on his team to learn from. Yeah, he does, which is why Josh McCown will start the rest of the season—at least that is my prediction.
