Back in the ‘60s Kathleen Brooks bought her first Volkswagen Beetle. It was a red 1967 model nicknamed “Annie” and she’s been using the car as her daily transportation for 51 years now, racking up 350,000 miles along the way. Now the 73-year-old still loves to drive Annie to work, where she provides comfort and cosmetic care to breast cancer patients and survivors during treatment and recovery.
And when Volkswagen of North America heard about Kathleen’s special relationship with her Bug, they wanted to do something nice for her. The company has spent the last year restoring the car, bringing it back to factory-quality specifications and adding custom touches to “celebrate Kathleen’s dedication” to Annie. It wasn’t easy for her to be without her Beetle for so long, but it was worth the wait.
VW replaced 40% of the car’s parts, restored 357 original pieces, and even recreated all the stickers Kathleen had put on the car over the last five decades. Now Annie is in better-than-new condition and should last another 50 years.
