In a game that seemed like the referees wanted to be as much a part of the game as the players, the Chargers come back from 14 points down with under four minutes left in the game to beat the best offense in the AFC and—in doing so—may have given themselves a shot at the top playoff spot in the AFC—for now at least.
And even more impressive — the Chargers did it without their top two running backs as both Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler were unavailable this game with injuries—and their top receiver as Keenan Allen left the game early with an injury.
No problem, the Chargers top draft pick from last season, Mike Williams, stepped in for all three scoring three TD’s—two receiving and one rushing—including a TD with just four seconds left to pull the Chargers to within 1 point 28-27.
Which is what makes his final catch of the game even more mind boggling.
Because the guy that, by far, was the biggest weapon for QB Philip Rivers—was wide open for this game winning two-point conversion.
