#INTIMACY: The benefits of - ahem - COFFEE* in the MORNING (*not coffee)


When do you typically have sex? According to several studies and surveys, most people get it on at night, but that means they’re missing out on some of the benefits of morning sex.

Here are a few reasons you may want to get frisky earlier in the day:

● Morning sex makes you more productive - A recent study by Mattress Advisor asked a thousand people who live with their partners about their sex lives. And while 63% of women (and 37% of men) say they never do it in the morning, those who do find one of the perks is that it boosts their productivity for the day. Nearly half the women (45%) reported feeling more productive after morning sex and 53% of men agreed.

● It can help beat morning stress - OB/GYN Dr. Maria Sophocles explains that sex releases endorphins, which are feel-good hormones that “create feelings of relaxation” and fight off anxiety and depression. She says, “Those are big pluses for starting the day off on the right foot.”

● Morning sex promotes bonding with your partner - Sex also releases oxytocin, the “love hormone” that can help you feel more connected to your partner.

● Testosterone levels are higher in the morning - Women have testosterone, too and levels are highest for everyone in the morning, which also means your sex drive is higher then. And since sex feels better when you’re totally in the mood, a morning romp could be especially satisfying.

Of course, not everyone is a morning person. So what do you do if your partner isn’t into morning sex? Like so many other things in a relationship, the key is compromise. You can try splitting your sex sessions into morning and night, so you both get to enjoy it when you’re most in the mood. Or save early morning sex for the weekends, so no one’s worried about getting out the door on time for work.
