Better Business Bureau Free Shed & E-Cycling Event

BBB To Host 13th Annual Shred & E-Cycle Event on April 27th

Identity theft happens when someone uses your Social Security number or other personal information to open new accounts, make purchases, or get a tax refund. One simple way to safeguard this information is to SHRED it.

Better Business Bureau offers a free community shred & e-cycle event as an easy and safe way to dispose of sensitive, but outdated materials. The event is Saturday, April 27th, from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm in Central Catholic High School‘s parking lot located at 4824 Tuscarawas Street W in Canton, OH 44708.

Businesses and individuals can bring any documents that list personal or financial information to be commercially shred onsite. E-cycling of electronics will also be available. Items may include: Batteries (no Alkaline), Cell Phones, Computers, Fluorescent Light Bulbs*, Ink & Toner Cartridges, Keyboards, Laptops, Monitors*, Printers, Satellite Boxes & Dishes, Speakers and Televisions*. *Fluorescent Lightbulbs - $1.00 for 4ft or smaller, $2.00 for 8 ft

*Monitors and TV’s with glass tube - $20.00 disposal fee

There is no charge for this event, however monetary donations to the BBB Charitable and Educational Fund are welcome and appreciated in order to continue to provide this service. Due to the overwhelming response in 2018, any businesses with 10 or more boxes are asked to call ahead and a $50 minimum donation is requested.

The Identity Theft Resource Center has devised a helpful guide to protect individuals against identity theft by using the word SHRED.

S Strengthen passwords. Use at least 8 characters, alpha numerics, symbols and upper and lower case letters.

H Handle Personal Identifying Information with care. Don’t give this information out unless absolutely necessary.

R Read credit reports annually. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com every year for a free credit report.

E Empty your purse or wallet. Don’t carry any more than necessary and never have your Social Security card with you.

D Discuss these tips with your friends. Share your knowledge and educate those around you.
