Boy Saves A Sleeping Family From Burning Home

A Pennsylvania tween is being praised for saving a family from a house fire. At around 10pm on June 1st, Elkland 12-year-old Bennet Campbell was walking home from the park with his family when they noticed that the back of their neighbor’s house was on fire.

Bennet immediately ran around the home to the front door to alert the homeowners. "I ran to the house and started pounding first and then started kicking at the door,” he recalls, “[the fire] started working its way to the front of the house and started up towards the roof.” Soundly sleeping inside the home were Kyle Herman and his two children. When Herman learned the back of his home was on fire, he ran to investigate and was blasted in the face by the raging fire.

Thanks to Bennet’s alert, his neighbor was able to get his two young children safely out of the home before they were injured. Unfortunately, the father sustained burns that required a stay in the hospital, but he’s expected to fully recover. The Herman family is now counting their blessings and is grateful for Bennet’s quick thinking that spared them from a bigger tragedy.

crowdfund has been started by a family member to help the Hermans rebuild their lives.
