Community Shows Up For 5-Year-Old’s Bday After Pals Don’t

Willa Fitzgerald had been counting down the days until her fifth birthday party. Her mom, Lex Fitzgerald, planned a party for Willa at Hat Creek Burger Company near their home in Fort Worth, Texas, and invited all Willa’s classmates and friends. Only about a third of the people she invited responded, so she thought the party might be small, but 20 minutes after the party started, she was shocked that not a single person had shown up.

Out of desperation, Lex posted on a local Facebook group hoping to salvage the day. "If anyone has young kids and looking for something to do right now, no one showed up to my daughter's birthday party." If she was shocked at none of the invitees showing up for the party, she was absolutely gobsmacked at what happened next. "Within MINUTES families were showing up ready to share the day with Willa," the mom recalls.

What was an empty party table just a few minutes earlier was transformed into a bustling celebration. Lex later posted a heartwarming video on Instagram of the restaurant full of families celebrating Willa’s big day. “I just want to say thank you to all of the people who came today to be with us,” she writes, “You not only showed up for my little girl, but for me as well. You picked me up and encouraged me forward when I felt like I had failed as a mom. Thank you 💙”
