The Genesee County, Michigan, Sheriff's Department recently honored two young heroes who saved a drowning seven-year-old boy in their apartment complex's pool. On June 20th, Griffin Emerson was swimming in the pool at the Pheasant Run Apartments in Fenton, Michigan, and decided to take off his arm floaties. He jumped back into the pool and sank straight to the bottom.

Fortunately, 12-year-old Noah Roche noticed Griffin at the bottom of the pool and called out to his eight-year-old brother Weston Woods who immediately jumped into the water and pulled the unconscious boy to the pool’s edge. That’s when Griffin's mom saw what was happening and rushed to start CPR on her son, and Noah and Weston’s mom, Sylese Roche, called 911.

Griffin had regained consciousness before first responders arrived and took him to a nearby hospital, where he was kept overnight before being released the next day, fully recovered. When news of the rescue reached Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, he arranged to recognize the young heroes. At a small get-together in a park in Fenton, police, firefighters, EMS and 911 dispatchers showed up to praise Noah and Weston. All three boys were given gift bags containing books and gift cards and Swanson took the moment to stress the importance of being safe around water and suggested everyone should learn CPR.
