AZ Police Buy & Install AC Unit For Sisters Living In Sweltering Home

On Friday, Officer Sawtelle with the Surprise, Arizona, Police Department responded to a call for a welfare check and found sisters Paula and Linda Martinez baking in their 114-degree home with only a tiny fan to combat the heat. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, Sawtelle and his colleague Sergeant Vazquez quickly enlisted the help of the Surprise Fire-Medical, who transported the sisters to the Surprise Senior Center for some much-needed cooling down.

In the meantime, the dedicated officers didn't just leave it at that. Realizing that the ladies' fan wasn’t going to help much in the current heat wave, the Surprise Police Community Relations team purchased an air conditioner and several fans to help make the sisters’ house bearably cool. Then they installed the cooling devices, so the house would be comfy when the sisters returned.

On social media, the Surprise Police Department praised their officers for going above and beyond to protect the community's most vulnerable citizens. They also gave props to the other city employees who contributed to the effort, writing, “Thank you to everyone who helped make a difference.”
