"Doomsday Fish" Found Off Coast Of Taiwan

A sea creature has left many disturbed after a picture of it next to a diver went viral. The rare 6ft fish, known as Russell's Oarfish, is also referred to as the “Doomsday Fish” in Japanese mythology because it’s believed that a sighting of the giant precedes catastrophes like tsunamis and earthquakes.

The alien-looking animal has a long, flat, silver body dotted with holes and came right up to divers off the coast of Taiwan. This in itself was odd since the fish usually lives between 650ft and 3,000 feet below sea level. So why was it so close to the surface? One of the divers believes it may have been dying so it was swimming to shallow waters.

In support of this theory, TikToker Dylan Page says the fish come to the surface ahead of earthquakes, but also says there’s no scientific evidence to support that theory.
