Homeless Couple Get Their First Apartment With Nonprofit’s Help

After eight years of living together on the streets of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly homeless couple Daniel Robinson and Dianna Hofer are finally getting their first apartment together. The move is thanks to Phoenix Rescue Mission, a charitable organization focused on combating homelessness, hunger, addiction, and trauma, who stepped in to secure them a home.

The move couldn’t have come at a better time with Phoenix in the midst of a record heatwave. The city has been busy making efforts to improve conditions for its unhoused residents. Once Phoenix Rescue Mission was on Robinson and Hofer’s case, it only took their case manager six hours to secure them housing using an emergency housing voucher program.

In addition to getting them home, Phoenix Rescue Mission also secured some new furniture for the couple’s new digs. For Hofer, this was quite a novelty, having only ever owned used furniture. Having an apartment doesn’t solve every problem the couple might face, but knowing they have an airconditioned apartment to come home to means they have one less thing to worry about. And Hofer adds, “Being out on the street isn’t easy.”
